Warwick High security officer on administrative leave after student struck in face, NNPS officials say

According to Newport News Public Schools, the student was hit during an interaction. Officials didn't share what happened leading up to the incident.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A security officer at Warwick High School was placed on administrative leave after a student was struck in the face Thursday, officials with Newport News Public Schools said.

According to the school system, the student was hit during an interaction. Officials didn't share what happened leading up to the incident.

The school nurse immediately looked at and treated the student's injuries. Their parent was also notified of what happened and met with school administrators.

Child Protective Services was notified "in adherence with NNPS protocols," officials said.

"Newport News Public Schools prioritizes the safety and wellbeing of students and staff," the school system wrote in a news release. "All members of the NNPS community are expected to exhibit appropriate, respectful behavior."
