Man dead after crash on I-664

On Aug. 24, VSP responded to a two-vehicle crash on I-664 at the Monitor Merrimac Bridge Tunnel in Newport News around 10:47 p.m.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A man has died after a crash on I-664 on Saturday, the Virginia State Police (VSP) said.

On Aug. 24, VSP responded to a two-vehicle crash on I-664 at the Monitor Merrimac Bridge Tunnel in Newport News around 10:47 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was transported to the hospital where he later died on on Aug.26.

According to police, 44-year-old Edward Williams stopped on the shoulder due to mechanical issues. He stood at the front of his 2004 Chevrolet Malinu to check his engine. While he was checking his engine a 2017 Mercedes Benz ran off the road and hit his Chevrolet Malibu causing it to hit Williams. 

The driver of the Mercedes Benz, 34-year-old David Clayton Rosas, was charged with reckless driving. The case will be presented to the Commonwealth Attorney, who will decide if additional charges are pending.
