Police: Wanted man injured in Newport News shooting

A wanted man who was injured in a Newport News shooting is recovering in the hospital, police say.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- A wanted man who was injured in a Newport News shooting is recovering in the hospital, police say.

Authorities say emergency communications received a call at 1:53 a.m. reporting a shooting in the parking lot of Manhattan's Deli located at 601 Thimble Shoals Blvd. During the incident, a 24-year-old Newport News man was shot in the shoulder. After he was shot, he ran to the area of 610 Thimble Shoals Blvd. where he was found by police.

The man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

After investigating, police found that the male victim had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

Police say a 22-year-old female Newport News resident sustained minor injuries from broken glass as a result of the shooting. She was not taken to the hospital.

The identity of the male victim will be released after his arrest.
