Anniversary of Pearl Harbor attack: Virginia War Museum hosting memorial ceremony

On this day 82 years ago, the Japanese Imperial Navy attacked. At least 2,403 American military personnel, including 41 Virginians were killed.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — 82 years ago on the morning of Dec. 7, 1941, the Japanese Imperial Navy attacked the United States Navy Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii without warning. On Thursday, the Virginia War Museum is gathering to honor those lost in the attack.

On that day, at least 2,403 American military personnel, including 41 Virginians, were killed and another 1,178 were injured. The attack launched the United States into World War II.

The Pearl Harbor Day Ceremony will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday. The program includes a brief film screening about Virginian survivors and a wreath-laying at the Pearl Harbor Memorial in Huntington Park. The vent is free and open to the public.
