NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Newport News Police Department (NNPD) is asking for the public's help in solving a decades-old missing persons case.
NNPD says Sophia Mae Rivera, also known as Sophie, was last seen in the 800 block of 31st Street in Newport News in September 2003. She has not been heard from since then.
At the time of the disappearance, she was 31 and would be 52 today.
NNPD says Sophie is Black and Hispanic, 5'4", and weighed 105-130 pounds. Officials state she came to Newport News from New Hampshire around Thanksgiving 2001 or early 2002. She was known to frequent 33rd and 35th Street between Roanoke Avenue and Chesnut Avenue.
Police are searching for any information on her disappearance.
