NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) — A Newport News school janitor is accused of trying to solicit child pornography online.
47-year-old Shawn Lipscomb is charged with two counts of using a computer system to facilitate certain offenses involving children, which is a class 5 felony.
The Isle of Wight Sheriff's Office said it was conducting a separate internet-based investigation into child pornography when detectives learned of a social media account that was actively soliciting images of underage children on various social media sites.
A search warrant was executed Friday in the 5400 block of Arlington Avenue in Newport News, and various electronic devices were seized.
Lipscomb was taken into custody and is currently being held without bond at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
Newport News Public Schools said Lipscomb has worked for them since 2011 at Newsome Park Elementary School. As a result of his arrest, he has been suspended without pay.
