NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Tonight the Newport News School Board also unanimously approved the budget and calendar for the next school year.
The first day of school will be Monday, August 26. The last day for students is Tuesday, June 10, 2025. The last day for teachers is June 11.
Furthermore, Newport News Public Schools is getting ready to roll out a new security measure.
Starting in a few weeks all high school students will be required to wear their student IDs while on the bus and on school grounds.
The passes are called T-passes. The students will be required to scan their T-passes as they board and exit the school bus.
If students don't abide by the new policy they'll get a verbal warning first but could eventually face suspension.
The district says it provides another layer of safety and helps identify students in case of emergency.
