NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Newport News police are attempting to locate the driver of a white sedan that they believe committed a fatal hit-and-run in the early morning hours of Saturday, Oct. 26.

At 6:15 a.m. that day, they were called to the area of Jefferson Avenue and Harpersville Road, where an unconscious man was lying in the roadway. After a preliminary investigation, it was discovered the man, 74-year-old Dennis Gene Clarkson, was riding a bike, when he was struck by a passing car.

The driver did not stay at the scene, and Clarkson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators are hoping to speak to the driver of the white sedan in the video, who was headed west on Harpersville Road, and captured by a security camera only a few minutes before the accident was reported.

They ask if you know anything about the incident or recognize the vehicle to submit a tip at P3Tips.com or to call 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
