NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Newport News Police are asking for the public's help in finding a homicide suspect.
Police say that officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of 35th Street on January 27 around 7:50 p.m. concerning an automatic gunshot detector system alert. When officers arrived they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was taken to the hospital for care when he later died. The victim was identified as 38-year-old Jave Edwards of Newport News.
After an investigation, police identified 39-year-old Paul Joseph Mulleano of Newport News as a suspect in the homicide. Police say Mulleano is about 5 feet 11 inches, weighs 145 pounds, and has pink and black braids. Police also say he goes by the alias "Goo-Goo".
Police issued a warrant for his arrest on January 29. He's charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and other weapons offenses.
