NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A Newport News police officer was hit by a car while responding to another crash Tuesday morning.
According to the Newport News Police Department (NNPD), officers responded to reports of a vehicle crash on Jefferson Avenue southbound near the I-64 overpass.
When the officer got out of their vehicle to investigate the crash on foot, he was hit by a passing vehicle.
The officer received non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. The driver that hit the officer stayed on the scene.
The NNPD Crash Team is investigating the incidents.
