NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A Newport News man was convicted Thursday for having possession of cocaine he got through the mail, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said.

The DOJ said James Arthur Scott, 33 waited in a parking lot in Hampton to pick up a package from California that he would deliver to someone else with the nickname "Lit Wick."

Before then, law enforcement agents intercepted the mail at a UPS facility in Newport News, where two kilograms of cocaine were found in a shoebox.

Law enforcement used the mail to do a controlled delivery, where Scott was identified. According to the DOJ, after Scott put the mail in his vehicle, authorities did a vehicle takedown and found the cocaine on his front seat.

The DOJ said UPS identified Scott as having received at least four other packages in the same parking lot to be delivered to "Lit Wick."

Scott faces a mandatory minimum of five years and a maximum of forty years in prison for possession with the intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine when sentenced on June 4.
