NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- A Newport News home was so badly damaged by a fire Friday morning, that is now slated for demolition.
The Fire Department was called out the residence on Roanoke Avenue and 27th Street shortly after 11:30 a.m. Arriving firefighters found the two-story home fully engulfed in flames.
Crews immediately began defensive operations to prevent the fire from spreading to two neighboring homes. By 12:26, the fire was reported under control, and no occupants were found inside.
Due to the significant fire damage and structural instability, the City of Newport News will demolish the building later on Friday.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. There are no reported injuries.
