NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — People gathered in Newport News on Tuesday for the second "Trigger Love Not Violence" event.
The second annual tribute fundraiser at Peninsula Skating Center aimed to support youth and their families. The event was run by the anti-violence organization Favor.
"We just want our kids and our community to get back to having involvement with each other, socializing with each other. See if we can't curb violence by promoting positive activity with our kids," said one of the organizers.
Favor is dedicated to supporting local kids, including those at risk and impacted by violent crime.
The fundraiser was created in 2001 to honor Mike Jackson — who was dedicated to serving his community and focused on educating local youth to be productive, self-sufficient citizens.
This was one of multiple events Favor hosts around Virginia.
