NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Newport News Police Department (NNFD) responded to three structure fires in the last 24 hours, according to a social media post on Sunday morning.

The fires occurred in the 600 block of Sedgefield Drive, Carmella Circle and the 800 block of Cascade Dr.

The NNPD said no residents were harmed in any of these incidents, but one pet died in one of the fires and one firefighter got minor burns in the fire on Cascade Drive; they received treatment for that injury.

The Department reminded people to check their smoke alarms and map out an exit plan before incidents like these happen.

According to the post, no official reports have been released regarding the cause of each fire.
