NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A fire in the basement of Newport News' City Hall led to an evacuation of the building Tuesday morning, police said.
The fire broke out in the cafeteria's kitchen, located in city hall's basement. As a result, the building had to be evacuated for about an hour, beginning at 7:15 a.m.
No injuries are reported, and the fire was put out.
Newport News Police Dispatch also had to be evacuated because of the fire, and are operating at a backup location in Oyster Point. 911 services were not disrupted.
