NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The city of Newport News broke ground on the James River Strand project with a ceremony on Sept. 15.
This project covers a wide swath of outdoor improvement goals. It's set to add amenities to Christopher Newport Park, and build a multi-use walkway from that park to the adjacent Victory Landing Park.
The James River Strand project also includes the construction of a new amphitheater with terraced seating, lighting and electricity, for special events.
A spokesperson for the city said it's going to stabilize the shoreline of the James River, help people connect with the waterfront, and increase nearby property values.
You can check on the project's progress on the Newport News city website. As of the current timeline, it's set to wrap up in December 2023.
