NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A murder suspect who was revived by deputies earlier this week after an alleged suicide attempt at the Newport News City Jail has died.
According to the Newport News Sheriff's Office, 42-year-old Alfred Raymond Lattanzio was found hanging in his cell on April 1 around 2:30 p.m. Sheriff’s Office personnel immediately started performing life-saving measured until Newport News Fire Department medics arrived and took over.
Lattanzio was taken to the hospital for treatment after what police call an apparent suicide attempt. He died in the hospital on Thursday.
Two separate investigations are being conducted: an internal investigation by the Newport News Sheriff’s Office and one by the Newport News Police Department, which is standard procedure.
Lattanzio was charged last week with first-degree murder after a fatal shooting in Newport News.
