NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries when he struck a stopped van in Newport News Tuesday evening, the police department confirmed.
Newport News police said a motorcyclist, 33-year-old James Bamburg, was heading south on Jefferson Avenue near Regency Square just before 5:30 p.m. when a van crossed the south lanes and came to a halt at the intersection. Bamburg subsequently struck the van.
Medics brought Bamburg to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Police did not say if the driver of the van suffered any injuries.
The Newport News Police Department Crash Investigation Team is handling the investigation.
