Mission: Comfort and Joy collecting donations for Helene victims

Organizer Jordan Grice urges people: "There is a way you can help Western North Carolina right now."

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A group of families in the Hampton Roads region is gathering supplies for those in western North Carolina hit hard by Hurricane Helene. They're calling this collective Mission: Comfort and Joy.

In the past few days they have built up a following on Facebook to organize several drives, including one last week where they filled up a semi-truck.

They have assisted other nationwide efforts, like Operation AirDrop and Hurricane Helene Airlift Relief.

Organizer Jordan Grice said, "There are hundreds of thousands of people right now in western North Carolina who aren't getting those comforts."

They are preparing for another donation drive right now and are taking donations until 5 p.m. Wednesday, looking to ship off on Thursday. You can find their information here.
