NEWPORT, NSW — A man has been injured after a shooting in Newport News on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
It happened in the 3100 block of Roanoke Avenue, near the Chestnut area of the city. The Newport News Police Department responded to the area around 1:10 p.m. for a report of shots fired.
Officers found a man suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Medics transported him to a hospital to be treated.
On Thursday, police said officers arrested Eric Robert Brooks, 18, on Wednesday evening. According to the police department, he was charged with malicious wounding, eluding law enforcement and several weapon offenses.
“This arrest was the culmination of outstanding detective work. Our investigators are to be commended for making a swift arrest in this case,” NNPD Chief of Police Steve Drew wrote in a news release Thursday. “I also want to thank the community members who came forward and the city’s investment in technology, which both played key roles in assisting this investigation.”
