Man faces rape charges after alleged sexual assault in Newport News

Charles Randolph Jackson III was charged with three counts of rape, one count of abduction, one count of strangulation and one count of assault and battery.

HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Authorities arrested and charged a man with multiple counts of rape after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman Thursday night in Newport News.

Police and medics responded to a home in the 3200 block of Roanoke Ave. at 11:30 p.m. regarding a call of assistance from a female.

Arriving officers found a 32-year-old woman who reported she was physically and sexually assaulted by a man inside the home.

She claims she met the man at a gathering earlier in the evening and went home with him. While there, he refused to let her leave, threatened to shoot her and assaulted her physically and sexually.

Medics transported her to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Officers located a man asleep inside the home and detained him. Police also obtained a search warrant and gathered evidence from the home.

The suspect, identified as Charles Randolph Jackson III, was charged with three counts of rape, one count of abduction, one count of strangulation and one count of assault and battery.
