NEWPORT NEWS- A three week detour is ahead for one of the Peninsula's more heavily traveled areas.
Construction will begin next week at the intersection of Maxwell Lane at Warwick Boulevard.
It's all part of the Middle Ground Boulevard extension project and that will be a quick connection between Warwick and Jefferson Avenue.
Traffic will need to be rerouted to give crews a chance to blend Maxwell Lane into the new construction and so that the Hampton Roads Sanitation District can put in needed infrastructure.
Some residents knew this was coming. However, they were hoping it could be scheduled before school started.
"The roads are too small, you're going to have more accidents and more congestion back here and with all the kids in school it's going to be a mess," said Ken Wilson who lives nearby.
The Middle Ground Boulevard project is expected to be finished by the end of the year.
