NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- An airman stationed at Langley Air Force Base is charged with growing and selling marijuana from his Newport News apartment.

31-year-old John Alan Deming faces numerous charges after a search warrant on his home in the 700 block of Austin Court turned up marijuana, cocaine, marijuana growing lights, and several firearms.

Deming is an airman stationed at Langley Air Force Base.

He recently tested positive for cocaine and later admitted to using cocaine. Coworkers tell police Deming recently displayed erratic behavior, which led them to have Deming seek medical evaluation through Langley.

Deming was placed in custody at Portsmouth naval medical center. While he was at the center, Deming asked his coworkers to go to his apartment to get some of his clothes and shoes.

When Deming's coworkers went inside his apartment, they found a room they described as being converted into a grow operation. Concerned about what they found, Deming's coworkers called police.

Police also found items they say are consistent with precursors for manufacturing methamphetamine.

Deming is charged with possession of a Schedule I or II Drug, manufacturing marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, and two counts of possession of a firearm with a Schedule I or II drug.

Deming’s next court hearing is scheduled for October 7th at 9 a.m.
