NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — VDOT is looking to create a new diamond interchange on Interstate 64 in Newport News and is looking to hear feedback from residents first.

A public hearing will be held on June 25 to discuss two proposed plans for constructing the interchange at Denbigh Boulevard, between Fort Eustis Boulevard and Jefferson Avenue. VDOT said the goal is to "improve safety, reduce congestion, and expand access to the local area."

The proposed projects are referred to as "Phase 1" and "Phase 2."  Phase 1 would see the construction of the I-64 west on- and off-ramps at Denbigh Boulevard, and also improvements to the Denbigh Boulevard intersections at Warwick Boulevard and Jefferson Avenue.

Phase 2 would then involve the construction of the I-64 east on- and off-ramps, and then the widening of the bridge on Denbigh Boulevard over I-64 and the CSX railroad tracks to accommodate new ramp turn lanes.

The public meeting will be an open-house format to allow the public to see project exhibits on display and and ask questions to VDOT representatives.

The meeting will be held at the Denbigh Community Center on Warwick Boulevard on Tuesday, June 25, from 5 to 7 p.m.

VDOT has created web pages for both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the proposed projects.
