NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A single-vehicle crash involving a pick-up truck pulling a trailer closed all northbound lanes of Interstate 664 Tuesday morning, according to Virginia State Police (VSP).
The crash happened around 10:27 a.m. on I-664, at the Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel (MMBT) North.
The pick-up truck was traveling northbound when a heavy crosswind caused the trailer attachment to sway and overturn.
At 11:23 a.m., VSP said all northbound lanes remained blocked until the rotational wrecker service on the scene can recover the vehicle.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) implemented a detour at College Drive, Exit 8A while troopers attempt to open the roadway.
According to VDOT, drivers can expect delays and traffic backups for an estimated 2.5 miles.
Troopers have determined speed and alcohol were not contributing factors to this crash.
