Fire units responded to the 700 block of 21st Street, around 8:26 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters saw black smoke coming from the second story of a home. A man was then seen crawling out of a broken, second-story window onto the roof of the porch. He suffered minor cuts from breaking the window, but refused medical treatment, fire officials say.
The fire was contained to the second floor and was brought under control within eight minutes.
Due to fire and smoke damage, the house was condemned. Damage is estimated to be around $25,000.
The cause of the fire was ruled to be from the improper disposal of smoking materials.
