NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Some Fort Eustis residents may hear loud messages broadcast over Joint Base Langley-Eustis' notification system during a lockdown exercise next week, according to a news release.

The base-wide exercise on Dec. 3 is to "evaluate unit lockdown plans, checklists, and standard operating procedures should an emergency situation requiring an installation-wide lockdown occur," officials said.

Fort Eustis officials said there have been no indications of a changed or increased threat environment.

Base entry points and customer service facilities for the duration of the exercise may be impacted. School drop-off and pickup times will not be impacted.

Residents and visitors should plan accordingly to allow for delays and service interruptions.
