NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Newport News Police Department (NNPD) is investigating an early Thursday morning multi-vehicle crash that killed one driver and sent another to the hospital.
According to the NNPD, around 12:12 a.m., their officers responded to a crash at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Mercury Boulevard.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a Nissan Versa drove through a red light while traveling westbound on Mercury Boulevard and struck a Chrysler 200 driving through a green light while traveling southbound on Jefferson Avenue.
The crash also caused both vehicles to strike two other vehicles.
While no one in the other two vehicles was injured, the driver of the Chrysler was pronounced deceased at the scene and the driver of the Nissan Versa was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
