Missing Newport News woman last seen in October

Sherree Denise Brown was last seen on the morning of October 17, 2023, on Daphia Circle in Newport News.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Virginia State Police (VSP) has issued a Critically Missing Adult Alert -- also known as an Ashanti Alert -- for a Newport News woman who disappeared more than a month ago.

50-year-old Sherree Denise Brown was last seen on the morning of October 17, 2023, on Daphia Circle. She may have been wearing a pink blouse and gray joggers. Newport News Police said she was first reported missing on October 24.

Brown is 4'11" tall and weighs about 130 pounds. She has brown eyes and brown hair.

VSP has not said what prompted the issuing of an Ashanti Alert more than a month after she was last seen, but did state that her "disappearance poses a credible threat" to her health and safety.

Her father Darrel Brown said family members are especially concerned because Sherree Brown has cancer and needs medication and chemotherapy.

“Breast cancer; Stage four cancer. She was on chemo. She hasn’t reported to chemotherapy. She hasn’t picked up any medicine,” he said. “I can’t even picture here being out there and not contacting nobody… She doesn’t have a habit of going off for days at a time. She was talking to my son every day. They talked every day.”

Brown questioned what took so long for police to issue the alert.

“Right now, I don’t know what they’re thinking,” Brown said. “I want people to come forward. If it was their daughter or their mother, they would want people to come forward. If you see something, say something.”

Brown said his daughter had an altercation with another man before she went missing and family members believe this man could have taken her or might have something to do with her disappearance.

“She was thrown out of a truck at a car wash and he was trying to get her back in the truck or something like that,” Brown said.
