Christopher Newport University and the Red Sand Project come together to stand against human trafficking

Operation Breakthrough, taking place Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on CNU's campus, invites anyone in the community to take part in creating an art installation.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Christopher Newport University is partnering with the Red Sand Project for a community event to bring awareness to human trafficking.

"Operation Breakthrough" takes place Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on CNU's campus and invites anyone in the community to "embark on a unique and visually striking art installation using the Red Sand Project, a powerful medium that symbolizes the hidden victims of human trafficking."

The red sand represents the countless victims of human trafficking and the community's commitment to taking a stand against the crime. At the event, people will collectively pour red sand into the sidewalk cracks.

Many organizations will be participating alongside the university.

You can go to the Red Sand Project's website for more information on the cause and go to CNU's event page for event-specific details.
