NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — One person died after a car struck a tree in Newport News Friday night.
According to the Newport News Police Dept., officers responded to the area of Mercury Boulevard and River Road shortly before 9 p.m.
That's where officers found a sedan that had crashed into a tree. Police said one occupant was pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were taken to the hospital. The extent of their injuries is not yet known.
The crash remains under investigation.
