NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — It was a big weekend for a 66-year-old Newport News cyclist.
Connie Maxwell won three medals at the USA Cycling Road National Championships in Augusta, Georgia. She took home two bronze medals and a gold.
" I hadn't done a crit in probably 20 years and was like yeah I'll try. So I won the National Championship at the crit," Maxwell said. " I [was] just like, I'm just gonna nail this as hard as I can."
Maxwell competed in the Masters Women 65-69 category.
She also celebrated another woman who competed in her age category, 80-year-old Camilla Buchanan, who won three gold medals.
Maxwell said she hopes to return to next year's championship.
