2 injured, dog killed in 2-alarm fire at Newport News condominium

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and three people are displaced as a result, the fire department said.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Three people are displaced, two are injured and a dog is dead following a fire at a condominium in Newport News Friday afternoon. 

According to the Newport News Fire Department (NNFD), firefighters arrived at a two-story condominium at the corner of Ventura Way and Windsor Pines Way after reports of a fire. 

Upon arrival, heavy fire was coming from multiple windows of the unit, and a second fire alarm was called. Firefighters were able to control the fire within an hour, and stopped the fire from spreading to other units. 

One firefighter was injured, the department said, and was brought to the hospital. One of the residents was also hospitalized for inhalation injuries, and is expected to recover. 

A dog, unfortunately died as a result of the fire, NNFD said.
