HAMPTON, Va. — A Yorktown woman was sentenced on Tuesday to about five years to serve for the 2023 death of a VDOT worker.

Alana F. Diomande, 28, received the sentence in Hampton Circuit Court.

She was found guilty after a trial in June. Diomande was the defendant in the Oct. 8, 2023, death of 52-year-old Craig Boone, a VDOT safety service patroller.

Boone was assisting a motorist on I-64 eastbound near the Big Bethel overpass at about 1:15 a.m. that night. His vehicle was on the right shoulder with its arrow board illuminated. Diomande ran off the road onto the right shoulder, sideswiping the VDOT truck and hitting Boone, who was outside the truck.

Boone, a VDOT contract employee of AECOM, was from Norfolk.
