HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Hampton police have arrested two people in connection with a fight that was caught on video at Buckroe Beach.
The incident took place April 26, when police say they received multiple calls, around 7:42 p.m., about a fight near the pavilion area of the beach.
Officers arrived to find the crowd had already begun to disperse and those that were still on the scene were uncooperative.
After investigating, officers found that the victim, an 18-year-old Hampton man, confronted the suspect, Desean Jones, in reference to a piece of property the victim believed did not belong to the suspect.
Police say Jones began assaulting the victim with multiple punches and knee strikes.
Police arrested Jones, 21, on May 2. He has been charged with one count of felony maiming and one count of misdemeanor petit larceny.
A further investigation revealed that a robbery had also occurred during the altercation. The incident was also caught on videos that were submitted to Hampton Police. Officers say tips supplied by the community in regards to the robbery led to the arrest of a second suspect.
The victim, Steven Ezzell, reported he was sitting with friends when a fight broke out between two females. Ezzell stated one of his friends left his book bag sitting beside the stage as the two females were fighting.
Ezzell said his friend left his bookbag where they were sitting. When they went to retrieve the bag, it was missing. Both began looking for the bag and observed a black male with a bright yellow shirt sitting on top of the book bag.
When Ezzell approached the male and asked for the bag back, the male uttered an expletive, then stood up and began repeatedly punching Ezzell. The entire altercation was caught several camera phones.
21-year-old Gerald Jerome Boler Jr., of Hampton was arrested May 3 in connection with the reported robbery.
Jones and Boler are in the custody of the Hampton City Jail.
