History of WVEC-TV event at Hampton museum

The Hampton History Museum held an oral history event titled "Our Story, Our Time: A WVEC-TV Retrospective."

HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- The Hampton History Museum will hold an oral history event titled "Our Story, Our Time: A WVEC-TV Retrospective" Thursday, May 26.

The event will feature broadcast pioneers who were a part of the on-air and behind the scenes history of WVEC. The speakers will share their memories about the early days of television.

Son of co-founder Harrol A. Brauer Jr., Greg Brauer, who still works at the station to this day, will be among the guests, along with Rick Clark, Mike Babcock, and Don Sherouse.

Rick Clark amused children as "Sandy the Clown" and also scared many as the "Keeper of the Chamber."

Mike Babcock was a cameraman at the station before becoming a program director for "Bungles the Clown."

Don Sherouse was an engineer at the station.

The station first went on the air on September 19, 1953.

After the guests have spoken, the audience will get the opportunity to ask questions and share their own memories of WVEC-TV programming.
