HAMPTON, Va. — The Hampton University community is honoring the life of the university’s 10th president, Dr. Roy Hudson, after his passing last week. He was 93 years old.
Hudson, a Tennessee native, is remembered as a college valedictorian, United States Air Force veteran, husband, father, and so much more. But for six years of his life students and staff at Hampton University, knew him as president.
"From 1970-1976, Dr. Hudson was the former President of Hampton Institute (now known as Hampton University) in Hampton, VA and the Interim President of Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC," as written in Hudson's obituary.
Current HU President Darrell K. Williams wrote in a statement, "He spearheaded initiatives that expanded educational opportunities and enhanced the quality of education at Hampton University."
On Wednesday, April 24th, the university's flags will fly at half staff in honor of Hudson's memory.
