HAMPTON, Va. — A 62-year-old man is dead after a car hit a riding lawn mower he was driving in the roadway Saturday night.
The call came in as a motor vehicle crash in the 1900 block of Shell Road around 11:03 p.m., Hampton Police Division said in a news release.
Officers found a Chevy Malibu that had hit a riding lawn mower in the road.
The driver of the riding lawn mower died at the scene. Another man that was also riding on the lawn mower was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Police identified the man killed in the accident as Floyd Arthur Howard Jr., of Hampton.
Investigators said that both the lawn mower and the Malibu were traveling west on Shell Road when the car hit the lawn mower from behind.
The crash remains under investigation by members of the Accident Reconstruction Team.
