85-year-old woman dies after apartment fire in Hampton

Firefighters said a woman whom they rescued from a burning home died at the hospital.

HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Firefighters said Monday that an 85-year-old woman who was hurt in an apartment fire died at the hospital Sunday night.

The Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue tweeted photos and information about the fire in the 100 block of Martha Lee Drive. The fire started shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday.

Investigators did not determine the cause of the fire, but they said it appeared to have started accidentally.

The Medical Examiner's Office will determine what specifically led to the 85-year-old's death.
