HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Police said Monday that 30-year-old Anthony Carel Floyd, Jr. was the person killed in a shooting Sunday afternoon in the 100 block of Kathann Drive.
Two other people, Willie Darez Milligan, Jr. and a 21-year-old man, were hurt in the incident which happened around 1:20 p.m. in the Abbington at Northampton Apartments.
Investigators learned that Milligan and Floyd entered a home with firearms and began shooting at each other. Both were struck by gunfire as well as the 21-year-old male victim.
Once first responders got there, they rushed Milligan and the 21-year-old victim to the hospital and pronounced Floyd dead at the scene.
Milligan was taken into custody and was charged with four counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, one count of attempted malicious wounding, one count of burglary while armed, one count shooting into an occupied dwelling and one count of shooting in public.
Najee Ashley was visiting his friend who lives in the complex.
"That was really crazy to see someone laid out like that, not moving. It's creepy. I didn't hear anything until she told me to come look outside there's a lot of cops out. There's like 11 cops. There was a body over there," said Ashley.
Alyssa James lives just yards away from where the shooting happened.
"I was just in my kitchen. I just happened to look out the window and see all the police out here," James told 13News Now
James added she never heard gunshots, but she did hear yelling.
"They were putting him in the cop car, and he was screaming and hollering, so we don't really know what happened," said James.
A neighbor said apartment management emailed everyone an update. It said police detained one person for questioning.
"This is not my neighborhood. We have a good neighborhood out here. So, this was definitely a shock to see all of these cops," said Paris Standford. "Then to hear there was a body there a few yards away from me, that was definitely shocking."
Detectives said Monday they still were looking into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
