A Suffolk man was taken into custody in connection with a March 25 homicide, Hampton police said in a news release.

Police, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Task Force, apprehended 31-year-old Donte Demille Hampton on Monday.

The March 25 incident involved two men — Willie Darez Milligan, Jr. and Anthony Carel Floyd — who were contacted by Hampton and asked to "respond to a residence located in the 100 block of Kathann Drive." An argument occurred at the residence between Hampton and another known person, according to the release.

Milligan and Floyd were armed and entered the residence and began shooting — also exchanging gunfire with the residents in the home.

Both men were injured, including a 21-year-old man. Milligan and the 21-year-old were transported to a local hospital and treated for injuries not considered life threatening, the release stated.

Floyd died at the scene. The release states this was an isolated incident between the two parties.

Hampton, last known address in the 1000 block of Meadow Reach Circle, has been charged with one count of malicious wounding, one count of attempt malicious wounding, one count of shooting within an occupied dwelling, one count of discharging a firearm in a public place, one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and one count of conspiracy to commit a felony.

Hampton remains in custody of the Hampton Sheriff’s Office.
