Man charged after assaulting 3 people with a pocketknife, police say

The victims suffered non-life threatening lacerations and all refused medical treatment.

HAMPTON, Va. — A man is facing several charges in Hampton for allegedly assaulting people with a knife Thursday evening.

The Hampton Police Division said officers were dispatched around 5:20 p.m. to the 1000 block of Settlers Landing Road for a complaint of a stabbing.

The police investigation found that the suspect and three victims, who all knew each other, were in an altercation. 

During the altercation, the suspect, Joseph Wright III, took out a pocketknife and assaulted a 37-year-old woman, a 33-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man, according to police.

The victims suffered non-life threatening lacerations and all refused medical treatment.

Wright has been charged with two counts of unlawful wounding and one count each of aggravated malicious wounding, assault and batter and threatening to burn.
