HAMPTON, Va. — A jail inmate's death is under investigation, the Hampton Sheriff's Office said.
Authorities said the inmate, an adult man, was found unresponsive inside his cell during a security check shortly after 4 a.m. on Sept. 16 at the Hampton Community Corrections Center.
The sheriff's office said medical personnel immediately began performing life-saving measures until EMS arrived on scene. He was later pronounced dead.
Based on a preliminary investigation, authorities said there are no signs of foul play. The Hampton Police Division and the Hampton Sheriff's Office are continuing to investigate his death.
