HAMPTON, Va. — The iconic Hampton Carousel will be going another round once some much needed repairs are complete, city officials announced.
The century-old carousel has gone round and round in downtown Hampton for decades but was closed in summer 2022 for servicing repairs.
There are few professionals that are qualified to repair the historic attraction. But, alas, the city said its contracted Carousels and Carvings to fix it.
The Ohio-based manufacturer and restoration company will bring the carousel's mechanisms to the Midwest to restore it in-house. The horses will remain in Hampton, however.
"There is an emotional connection to it for generations," said Robin McCormick, a spokesperson for the City of Hampton.
There is no set time frame for when the carousel's repairs will be complete or when it will once again be up and running.
