Hampton Mayor Donnie Tuck will not seek re-election

Mayor Tuck is currently serving his second term as the mayor of Hampton.

HAMPTON, Va. — Hampton Mayor Donnie Tuck confirmed to 13News Now he will not be seeking re-election.

Mayor Tuck is currently serving his second term as mayor, winning re-election in July 2020. His term ends at the end of 2024.

He was first elected as mayor in 2016 after serving two consecutive terms on the Hampton City Council.

During his annual State of the City address in December, Tuck applauded the city's efforts in reducing crime. He pointed to the Hampton Police Division's data drive approach to place officers in certain areas to build trust, along with improving the apprehension rate.

The mayor noted that the city was planning multiple housing projects to address the growing need for affordable housing — not only in the city of Hampton but across the Hampton Roads region.

He also praised Hampton City Schools as the class of 2023 had a 96% graduation rate with a dropout rate of less than 1%.
