HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Police say they have identified and arrested a suspect believed to be connected to a homicide from earlier in the week.
Dispatchers received multiple calls in reference to a shooting that occurred at the intersection of N. King St. and Huffman Drive on Wednesday evening.
Arriving officers found 19-year-old Jonathan Powers of Newport News near the roadway in the 800 block of N. King St., near Kempton St., suffering from a gunshot wound. Medics transported Powers to a local hospital, where he died overnight.
Police have arrested 18-year-old Jahsean Curry and charged him with one count of murder and one count of using a firearm in commission of a felony. He remains in custody at the Hampton City Jail.
The motive and circumstances behind the shooting is still under investigation.
