HAMPTON, Va. — A video posted on Facebook shows numerous packages sitting outside a FedEx Ground center in Hampton, triggering a massive response from the community.
Raymond Miltier is the person who shared the video that shows parcels spilling out of the facility on Floyd Thompson Boulevard. Many people, like Miltier, said they had been waiting for long periods of time to get their deliveries from FedEx.
The post garnered nearly 2,000 shares after it was posted Wednesday. Several people left comments echoing the same issues with shipping delays:
13News Now reached out to FedEx about the apparent backups:
FedEx Ground is experiencing a surge of package volume due to e-commerce growth during the current pandemic, while navigating associated business closures and other constraints that have impacted operations in the Hampton, Virginia, area. We encourage customers who have concerns about their shipments to visit fedex.com for information or call FedEx Customer Service at 1.800.GoFedEx.
We are committed to protecting our customers’ shipments. Any packages staged in outside areas will be sheltered from the elements as necessary.
“I didn't know all the circumstances, but it didn't seem right to me,” Miltier said. “It didn’t seem like that’s how people's packages should be stored.”
Miltier said an employee told him it might be weeks before they got to the trailer his package was on. When Miltier asked about the ones on the ground, he said the employee told him they were so backed up they ran out of room in the warehouse.
“That's my property. I paid for it, it's mine and it doesn't look to be treated like it should,” Miltier said.
Eileen Fennell is also waiting on her package. She said her Chewy package has been on a truck ready for delivery since April 17.
“I've been getting promises from FedEx my order is coming, my order is coming,” Fennell said. “When I saw the video, I was heartbroken. My neighbor got his order, where's mine? This can't be happening to other people; I did not know it was that bad.”
Employees moved the packages before the rain came down Thursday morning.
