Deadly crash under investigation in Hampton

A man was killed in a crash on N. Armistead Avenue on Monday morning.

HAMPTON, Va. — A man is dead after a crash in Hampton.

Officers responded to the scene of a fatal vehicle crash near 2500 N. Armistead Avenue shortly before 9:30 a.m. Monday, wrote the Hampton Police Division. 

Police said that based on a preliminary investigation, a silver Lexus sedan was driving south on N. Armistead Avenue when the driver lost control and went off the road.  The car managed to get back onto the roadway where it then hit the back of an unoccupied Newport News Waterworks truck.

The driver of the Lexus was taken to a local hospital, where he died a short time later.  He was identified as Kenneth Charles Dail Jr., a 58-year-old Hampton man.

Southbound lanes between Tidemill Lane and Hampton Roads Center Parkway were shut down for a time, but the road has since reopened.
