HAMPTON, Va. — The 20-year-old playground at Buckroe Beach will be getting a refresh next spring.
Hampton City Council approved a new design for the playground during last Wednesday's work session, which will feature more shaded areas, ADA-accessible equipment and more sensory features such as instruments and periscopes. Over 500 residents were able to provide their comments on the design through an online survey, and more were able to participate in several information sessions where they could provide their input.
Currently, the fenceposts surrounding the playground showcase neighbors' names, and the fence will remain in place until construction begins. Residents who would like to claim their fencepost can do so during the playground's grand reopening, or throughout the year afterward.
The playground will have a different surfacing as well, removing the current mulch and putting in a rubber surface like the one at Gosnold's Hope Park, said David McCauley, director of Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services.
Further information on the playground can be found in the recording of Wednesday's meeting.
