HAMPTON, Va., (WVEC) -- The Virginia Peninsula Foodbank was surprised by Farm Fresh on Friday with more than 200 30-day bus passes for its culinary students.
The food bank posted on Facebook that the company has always been a valuable community partner "throughout the years."
"Farm Fresh Supermarkets consistently stood right by our side as we fed the community, and we will always remain honored and grateful for their support," the food bank said.
"Through food donations, significant grants, in-store campaigns, and food bags, Farm Fresh was always there when we needed them, and we cherished this special relationship."
The Virginia Peninsula Foodbank will use the Hampton Roads Transit bus passes to ease the transportation costs for adults in its Culinary Training Program.
The food bank said Farm Fresh's departure from the community will be a loss, "but the impact they made on us and our neighbors in need was nothing short of remarkable."
